Industry Category Search to find Related Industry Terms

http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/tour-directory.html

Industry Categories search queries the Industry Terms database to display
categories that the keyword(s) fall under.

This is useful for the following reasons:

- Locating related keywords that are driving traffic to the same category or
niche.

- Finding and matching keywords to categories, particularly useful for
domainers and niche marketers.

Then if you click on any of the applicable categories you can instantly see other related keywords that are also in the same

industry category.

Keyword Discovery - Successful Search Score - NEW FEATURE

Successful Search Score

http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/feature-successful-search-score.html

A new data point has been added to the Analyze function, which contains the percentage of searches that generated a click on one of the search results. That is, what percent of people that did that search for the same keyword, actually found and clicked on a result returned by the search engines.

The % is rather insightful as it provides a very clear indication on search terms that generate clicks.

It also provides a great way to find search terms that are currently not optimized for. If the results returned do not generate clicks, then obviously vast majority of users do not see any relevant results, so spending time optimizing on these low Successful Search Score terms could be a valuable exercise.

And finally it also highlights search terms that have very high Successful Search Score percentages as ones that will be optimized and will be harder to compete against. So closers to 100% will mean that users tend to find what they are looking for in the results returned by the search engines.

Keyword Discovery - Also Searched - NEW FEATURE RELEASE

Friday, March 20. 2009

Also Searched
http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/feature-also-searched.html

This feature lists the most commonly searched keywords, searched for by the same users that also searched for the supplied search term. For example for the seed search term "eminem" these are some of the other "Also Searched" for keywords in the same session listed in order of relevance.

Great for brain storming and identifying new potential trends, paths
and niche terms that others users have performed in the past.

The End of the Overture Suggestions Tool - This time for sure

Monday, June 30. 2008

If you have not noticed, the Overture suggestion tool and respective regional versions are now redirecting to Yahoo.com Search Marketing website instead:

http://sem.smallbusiness.yahoo.com/searchenginemarketing/

Confirming with Yahoo, the tool has officially been axed.

The Overture tool has long been used by webmaster, affiliates, PPC advertisers, and also by many 3rd party tools. But alas the time has come to say our final goodbye to the pioneer of Keyword Research. Thank you for the years when there was no alternative.

Unfortunately for too many years the Overture tool was not improved on and let slide to a level where the results displayed were just far too skewed. So skewed that the tool was attracting more and more "bad press" along with all those unofficial 3rd party tools causing server load issues, both drove Yahoo to pull the plug.

Many may not know, but Yahoo still has a keyword tool, simply login to a search marketing account and you can do your keyword research with even more features, some very similar to the Google keyword tool...

Cheers
David

SEO experts are like used car salesmen

Friday, January 25. 2008

Jeremy Schoemaker from ShoeMoney does not really like SEO experts and believes they are like used car salesmen.

His points are:

1) They can always sell you something.
2) They can never guarantee results.
3) They can not be held accountable.
4) They have a answer for everything.
5) All the magic happens behind the curtains - they cant tell you
what they are actual doing because that would be getting to much into
the secret sauce.
6) Anyone can be a SEO.

Well, you've got to admit Jeremy is good at starting a debate: one week later Danny Sullivan from http://www.searchengineland.com/ decided to do an interview with him to defend the SEO experts.

But did we need to be defended ?

The future belongs to Humans, not computers

Thursday, January 24. 2008

With the number of web pages, one would believe that only computers are now powerful enough to provide interesting results.

An American startup wants to challenge this claim and has just released a search engine that harnesses the power of thousands of people worldwide.

Basically, you make a search and a couple of minutes later the results are displayed. Apart from the loooooooong wait, the news lies in the fact that results are filtered by a Human before reaching your screen.

But is it worth waiting ?

Well, why don't you try http://www.chacha.com and post your comments ?

Do you want to see naked SEO specialists ?

Tuesday, January 22. 2008

It's 2008 and as usual the new year brings lots of surprises and presents.

And lots of calendars as well.

Why would anyone ever need a calendar now that we all have on our desk a computer that can provide us with any date and time ?

Anyway, that did not deter French affiliate marketing agency Effiliation to design their own calendar. And in typical marketing fashion (you know the "sex sells on the Internet"), they decided to bare it all and to make sure to draw maximum audience, they feature both male and female staff.

They called it "The Web Gods" and you can get from http://lesdieuxduweb.com/ . Simply click on the picture of the calendar.

Now, Becky being our resident photograph, I'm sure she can organise something similar at Trellian ?

Where does the money come from ?

Tuesday, January 22. 2008

I've just read this from Jeremie Berrebi's blog (http://www.berrebi.org/2008/01/17/largent-sort-de-lordinateur-ou-quoi/ in French) .

"My 5 year old son tries to understand how I make a living while he sees me all the time sitting in from of my laptop.

'Daddy, how do you make money ? Where does it come out of the computer ?'

Had I been a baker it would be a lot easier to explain..."

Jeremie is the founder of the online store creation platform Zlio but I'm sure that anyone working online can relate to this experience...

Do you remember ?

Tuesday, December 4. 2007

I remember when I did not have any grey hair, when the Internet was spelt with a capital I, when Yahoo! was a novelty and 10MB web hosting would cost $150 a month.

I remember when you just had to create a 5 page website, submit it to Yahoo!, wait a couple of weeks, and enjoy seeing it in the directory.

I remember when anyone could create a website on any subject, and be on top of Altavista a few weeks later.

I remember when everyone stood a chance at being ranked first, simply because there was no other website on the same subject.

Now we have LOTS of new websites created every day. And I mean huge numbers. Let's take only the number of blogs created per day: "Technorati is now tracking over 70 million weblogs, and we're seeing about 120,000 new weblogs being created worldwide each day" (source: http://www.sifry.com/alerts/archives/000493.html ).

What does it mean ? Simply that with so much new content coming online every day, it is getting very hard to identify what is of value and what is not.

It is even getting so hard that engines don't know how to do it anymore, and have to drop all their ideas such as PageRank to go back to the basics: trust no-one, unless you really know them.

"Today 27% of Google’s results on the first link alone come from Wikipedia, as do 31 % of Yahoo’s." (source: http://aixtal.blogspot.com//2007/11/search-google-yahoo-comparison.html)

The same website also shows that on top of the results, you mostly get major web properties: newspapers, large content providers, etc...

Does it mean you can't rank anymore ? No it does not. It simply means you too need to go back to basics: become an authority on a subject, update your website often and write fresh content.

SES France canned

Friday, November 2. 2007

It's a tough world out there, and it's even tougher in France.

Not only do they speak a weird language, they also go on strike for any reason, provided it's to do with priviledges a specific class wants to keep.

But I digress...

The latest casualty in the French world is the Search Engine Strategies in Paris.

It was to take place at the end of November and has now disappeared from the roadmap, replaced by the SES Forum in January.

Mind you, it lasted two years, with last year event boasting a huge 200 attendance, with no more than 180 speakers, friends of speakers and family ...

Well, well, well, maybe it's simply because it's organized by an American company ?

What do you think ? i will be happy to read your comments below...
